Project Engineer


Responsibilities:

  • Gather, research, and organize project design criteria and parameters
  • Design foundations and anchorage using custom in-house structural analysis software
  • Develop finite element analysis models
  • Work with IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, and other codes
  • Develop and draft details based on structural analysis and design results
  • Develop structural reports and memos
  • Prepare engineering calculations
  • Prepare submittal packages
  • Collaborate on projects with in-house engineers, project managers, and clients
  • Participate in structural engineering and site plan development for projects from planning to completion

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering (with structural design classes)
  • Ability to draw free-body diagrams and identify load paths for simple structures (such as a simply supported beam)
  • Ability and willingness to learn quickly
  • Effective organization, task, and time management skills
  • Effective teamwork skills
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Attention to detail
  • Basic familiarity with AutoCAD (2D) drafting

Pluses:

  • EIT/FE Certificate
  • Prior design-related experience (design projects and/or work)
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD (2D) drafting
  • Familiarity with structural engineering/analysis software
  • Familiarity with building codes (ASCE 7, IBC, ACI, AISC, NDS)
  • Familiarity with seismic and wind load analysis
  • Ability to draw free-body diagram and identify load path for more complicated structures such as frames

Design Project Manager


Responsibilities:

  • Understand project goals and scope based on available project history and information
  • Manage projects from planning to completion in the aspects of design, timelines, costs, etc.
  • Collaborate on projects with in-house engineers, admin staff, consultants, clients, and permit review authorities (as/if needed)
  • Participate in conference calls and meetings, present to clients under the guidance of senior project managers
  • Conduct local site visits with clients and consultants (as/if needed)
  • Uphold SGE's reputation for excellent service by meeting client needs in a timely manner
  • Actively contribute to further developing the company's Design Management Division

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or relevant fields
  • Ability and willingness to learn quickly
  • Effective organization, task, and time management skills
  • Effective teamwork skills
  • Effective communications skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to understand and elaborate technical concepts clearly, logically, and concisely
  • Attention to detail
  • Project management & leadership skills (participation in clubs, organizations, etc. and/or professional experience)

Pluses:

  • Any prior work experience (could be in relevant fields, customer service, etc.)
  • Basic familiarity with AutoCAD (2D)
  • Basic knowledge of structural design (particularly in seismic design, concrete, and steel design)
  • EIT/FE Certificate

Senior Project Engineer


Responsibilities:

  • Gather, research, and organize project design criteria and parameters
  • Design foundations and anchorage using custom in-house structural analysis software
  • Develop finite element analysis models
  • Work with IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, and other codes
  • Develop and draft details based on structural analysis and design results
  • Develop structural reports and memos
  • Prepare engineering calculations and submittal packages
  • Perform quality control reviews of own and other engineer's designs
  • Collaborate or take lead on projects with in-house engineers, project managers, and clients
  • Participate in structural engineering and site plan development for projects from planning to completion
  • Provide guidance to entry level project engineers

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering (with structural design classes)
  • Minimum of 4 years of structural engineering experience
  • Established proficiency with seismic and wind load analysis
  • Established proficiency with identifying load paths for various structures
  • Familiarity with structural engineering/analysis software
  • Established working knowledge of building codes (ASCE 7, IBC, ACI, AISC, NDS)
  • Ability to develop and propose design solutions, when faced with structural design challenges
  • Ability to develop design roadmap at the start of projects
  • Ability to reliably estimate own engineering hours required for design
  • Ability and willingness to learn quickly
  • Effective organization, task, and time management skills
  • Effective teamwork skills
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Attention to detail
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD (2D) drafting and structural steel detailing

Pluses:

  • Experience, interest, and/or ability to manage entry level engineers as direct reports
